Description

Teddy is from Montserrado County located in the northwestern area of Liberia. With the Atlantic Ocean at its shorelines and tropical forests covering the outer areas, the interior and valley areas are full of markets – The Red Light Market and Duala are the most popular. An area rich with resources like  charcoal is one of the county’s number one produced and traded products.

Growing up in the loving nature that Liberia offers, Teddy has been motivated to include in his works uplifting focal points that communicate unity and happiness.  The mastery of design and composition and recognizable in his signature style.  Influenced by Rembrandt, Teddy looks to approach his works in the spirit of the Dutchman, all while achieving spatiality through the use of his colors and unify tones that reflect African culture.

In his own words: “I try to put my best effort in my works.  I’m inspired by the music and culture that surrounds me. In my hometown and Liberia in general, there’s an essence I look to capture.  Whether its the jovial spirit of children playing or the high energy of bartering that takes place in the markets – it becomes a magnetizing aesthetic that I look to chronicle.  I feel it’s my responsibility to make work that’s appealing to the tastes of the public.  Ultimately, I just hope to put as many smiles on faces as I can as my works provide me with joy that I look to give back.”
