Overdo “BERGI” Berghout is one of Paramaribo, Suriname’s finest artists, and is revered as “Today’s Next Generation Artist” by the local and global art community. Hailing from the corner of the world where very few visitors can hold claim to have adventured through the South American country’s 90% untouched Amazon jungles or viewed the abundance of colonial Dutch architecture. Bergi brings Suriname to the canvas through his beautiful diversity of imagination.
Through the use of acrylics, a combination of aquarelle techniques and spontaneous brush stokes – he captures passion, romance, and the energy and the heritage of his country. Although only still in his twenties and growing up in violence in the streets of Paramaribo, Bergi found spirituality, which elevated his work and provided a way to bring joy to adverse situations.
