Abdulrazaq Ahmed

Abdulrazaq Ahmed is a mixed media artist and graduate of Ahmadu Bello University where he studied Urban and Regional Planning. A self-taught expressionist whose works reflect on societal catastrophes using acrylic, pencil, charcoal and burnt newspaper. His earlier influences include the works of Salvador Dali and Gani Odutokun. He considers his art a confluence of the Zaria School and memories from his childhood.

A Nigeria native and resident of Maiduguri which incidentally became the birthplace of the Boko Haram insurgency in 2009. Eventhough the region is synonymous with destruction and violence, as an artist Abdulrazaq uses his childhood memories to reconnect with the place he called home and provides a glimpse of the lives of the people living in this displaced landscape.
